A 2025 Case Western Reserve University study analyzing health records of 174,000 U.S. adults found that, among adults aged 50 and older who received the shingles (herpes zoster) vaccine and were followed for three months to seven years, vaccination was associated with about a 50% lower risk of vascular dementia, a 25% lower risk of heart attack or stroke, a 27% lower risk of blood clots, and a 21% lower risk of death.
