Georgetown University has removed U.N. Special Rapporteur on Palestinian issues Francesca Albanese from its list of affiliated scholars after the U.S. State Department sanctioned her in July for engaging the International Criminal Court on possible cases against U.S. and Israeli nationals without their consent. The change, flagged by watchdog group U.N. Watch via before‑and‑after screenshots of Georgetown’s website, comes amid U.S. and European criticism of Albanese’s comments on Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks and accusations of antisemitism and support for terrorism, which she has denied in other forums. Advocates such as the U.S. Israel Education Association’s Heather Johnston praised the move as holding universities accountable for whom they legitimize.
