William “Bill” Stevenson, 77, the first husband of former first lady Jill Biden, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a murder charge in the death of his second wife, Linda Stevenson, at their Wilmington, Delaware home. Linda Stevenson, 64, was found unresponsive on Dec. 28, and Bill Stevenson was charged with murder on Feb. 3 and is being held on $2 million bail. Prosecutors have not publicly detailed the alleged manner of killing in this piece, but Linda’s obituary described her as a longtime bookkeeper, mother and grandmother, and did not mention her husband despite a 40‑year marriage. Stevenson, known locally as founder of the Stone Balloon music venue, appeared remotely for the arraignment. The case is drawing national attention largely because of his decades‑old marriage to Jill Biden, though there is no indication the Bidens are involved in or have commented on the Delaware prosecution.
