ICE and Federal Immigration Enforcement

An AP–NORC and related national polling surge finds roughly six in 10 Americans (about 65%) say Trump’s deployment of federal immigration agents has “gone too far,” with stark partisan splits — nearly 9 in 10 Democrats, about 7 in 10 independents and only about one‑quarter of Republicans — and ICE favorability low overall (around 3 in 10) though high among Republicans (~70%). Republicans remain largely unified behind the crackdown and Trump’s overall immigration job approval is about 38%, but independents have soured sharply (approval falling from roughly 37% in March to 23%), narrowing the GOP’s trust advantage on immigration amid recent federal enforcement actions and shootings in Minnesota.
