Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer — via press secretary Stacey LaRouche — and Michigan lawmakers rejected President Trump’s Truth Social threat to block the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which he said the U.S. should “own, perhaps, at least one half” of and complained lacked “U.S. content, such as steel.” The Canada‑financed $5.7 billion span, jointly owned by Canada and Michigan and meant to ease congestion on one of North America’s busiest trade crossings, will open “one way or another,” officials said, warning that any attempt to block it would harm Michigan jobs, supply chains and the regional economy.
