Florida Plans 13th Execution Of 2026 As Supreme Court Denies Stay

Florida is set to execute William Frances Silvia at 6 p.m. Central on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Florida State Prison near Starke after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a last-minute stay.[1]

The U.S. Supreme Court's denial on Tuesday cleared the way for the scheduled execution.[1] This would be Florida's 13th execution of 2026; the state carried out a record 19 executions in 2025 and has accounted for more than half of the 22 U.S. executions so far this year.[1] Florida State Prison near Starke houses the nation's busiest death chamber, and the state has additional executions scheduled for Harold Gene Lucas on September 1 and Daniel Owen Conahan Jr. on September 10.[1]

In 2006 Silvia used a shotgun in an attack that killed his estranged wife and wounded his mother-in-law in the Orlando area; jurors convicted him of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.[1]
