Satellite-measured sea level data are used to support navigation and search-and-rescue operations, commercial fishing and shipping, coastal flood forecasting and city planning, and to assess and predict coastal erosion and saltwater intrusion into freshwater supplies for agriculture, irrigation, and municipal use.
