New York City police have arrested a 17‑year‑old boy on charges including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a loaded firearm after a Wednesday afternoon shooting at a crowded bus stop in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx left 16‑year‑old Christopher Redding dead and two younger teens wounded. Authorities say the gunfire erupted from a street dispute involving a group of four suspects — three males and one female — just as large numbers of students were waiting to go home; Redding, an aspiring football player at John F. Kennedy High School, was shot in the back and later died after reportedly stepping in to defend friends who were being targeted. A 15‑year‑old boy and a 13‑year‑old girl were each shot in the right leg and are hospitalized in stable condition. Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson called the incident part of 'too much violence among young adults' and said the fight escalated because 'someone had a gun,' while neighborhood residents describe regular after‑school conflicts at the stop and mounting fear about rising youth violence in the borough. Police have released footage of the suspects and continue to search for additional members of the group believed responsible for the shooting.
