A man is presumed dead after a wave swept him and two women into the ocean around 3 p.m. Saturday at Soberanes Point in Garrapata State Park, Monterey County, California, officials said. The women swam to shore and were hospitalized, while a Coast Guard helicopter briefly spotted what appeared to be a body at 4:30 p.m. before losing visual in dangerous surf; searches were suspended at night and were set to resume Monday amid an active Beach Hazards Statement. The incident comes a week after 15â20-foot waves at the same park swept a visiting father and his 7-year-old daughter into the ocean; both later died.
