U.S. officials, including the CIA, confirmed that 29‑year‑old Rahmanullah Lakanwal — evacuated to the United States under Operation Allies Welcome in 2021 and later granted asylum — previously worked with a CIA‑backed Afghan partner unit identified in reports as NDS‑03, which operated from Camp Gecko in Kandahar.
