Venezuela Post-Maduro Operations

The U.S. Embassy in Caracas issued a new security alert on January 10 telling U.S. citizens in Venezuela to leave the country immediately, citing reports that pro‑government armed militias known as colectivos are setting up roadblocks and checking vehicles for signs of U.S. citizenship or support for the United States. The alert underscores that Venezuela remains under a Level 4 'Do Not Travel' State Department advisory due to risks including wrongful detention, torture, kidnapping and civil unrest, and warns that the U.S. government, which withdrew all diplomats from Caracas in 2019, cannot provide emergency consular assistance even as international flights have resumed.
