President Donald Trump used a Jan. 5, 2026 Truth Social post to sharply attack Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and urge Republicans to unite behind former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, who Trump says officially filed Monday to challenge Massie in the May primary. Trump cast Massie as a 'weak and pathetic RINO' who opposes the GOP and criticized his stance against the U.S. operation that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, while Massie responded on X by fundraising off the attack and arguing he is targeted for opposing foreign aid, deficits and 'unnecessary wars.'
