Cuba’s Díaz‑Canel Rejects U.S. Talks as Trump Moves to Cut Off Venezuelan Oil and Cash
President Trump publicly warned Cuba on social media that there would be "NO MORE OIL OR MONEY…ZERO" unless Havana "make[s] a deal," while his administration has moved to seize Venezuelan oil tankers, hosted oil executives to restore U.S. firms' role in Venezuelan production, and targeted the roughly 35,000 barrels a day Cuba received from Venezuela (along with smaller Russian and Mexican shipments). Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel rejected talks, saying no negotiations are scheduled beyond technical migration contacts, blamed U.S. sanctions for about $7.5 billion in losses, vowed to defend the island "to the last drop of blood," insisted any dialogue require sovereign equality and non‑interference, and said Cuba lost some 32 military and security personnel in the U.S. operation that captured Nicolás Maduro.
