Potential measles exposures were reported during December holiday travel at four major U.S. airports — Raleigh‑Durham, Boston Logan, Newark Liberty and Denver International — as the CDC logged 2,065 measles cases nationwide in 2025 as of Dec. 30, the highest annual total in more than 30 years; 11% of cases required hospitalization and three deaths have been confirmed. Health officials say about 87% of cases are linked to roughly 50 outbreaks and about 93% of infected people were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination status, and state health departments are coordinating with airports on timelines, testing and public notices while the CDC warns the surge could jeopardize the U.S.'s WHO-recognized measles elimination status by late January 2026.
