U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell in Washington, D.C., sentenced Cristian Fernando Gutierrez‑Ochoa, a high‑ranking Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) operative and partner of cartel boss El Mencho’s daughter, to 11 years and eight months in federal prison for conspiring to launder millions of dollars in drug proceeds. Arrested in California in November 2024 after faking his death in Mexico and living under a false identity, Gutierrez‑Ochoa admitted helping move money for a cartel that DOJ says trafficked tons of methamphetamine and cocaine into the U.S., as prosecutors portrayed him as a trained operative embedded in the country and noted that CJNG was designated a foreign terrorist organization earlier this year.
