The Trump administration approved a record $11.15 billion, eight‑part arms package for Taiwan — the largest-ever U.S. sale to the island — that includes 82 HIMARS truck‑based launchers and 420 ATACMS long‑range missiles, 60 self‑propelled howitzers, more than $1 billion in drones and military software, Javelin and TOW missiles, helicopter spare parts and Harpoon refurbishment kits. The State Department said the sales will help Taiwan modernize and maintain a credible defensive capability while serving U.S. security interests; China angrily condemned the move as a violation of its sovereignty that risks turning the Taiwan Strait into a "powder keg," and the package now enters a 30‑day congressional review period.
