Trump Administration DHS and ICE Operations

Gov. Kristi Noem defended the DHS-led Minneapolis ICE surge and the deployment of Tom Homan, saying the agency "can always do better" and must learn from any mistakes while characterizing Twin Cities unrest as a "very organized, well-funded campaign of violent protests" and insisting DHS is focused on protecting federal buildings and pursuing violent criminals, including those trafficking drugs and children. She pushed back at House Democrats' firing and impeachment threats by calling the DHS job an "honor" and noting that success often means the public doesn't hear about it; Homan vowed after a Jan. 29 meeting with Minnesota AG Keith Ellison to stay "until the problem is gone," and former President Trump publicly defended Noem, saying she is doing a very good job and the border is secure.
