Title IX and Transgender Athletes

San Jose State University and the California State University system have sued the U.S. Department of Education over an OCR Title IX investigation tied to a controversy involving a transgender volleyball player. Rep. Zoe Lofgren publicly endorsed the lawsuit, saying she “firmly” stands with the university and accusing the Trump administration of attempting to freeze federal funding over what she called politicized, unfounded allegations, while OCR has accused SJSU of failing to investigate an alleged conspiracy by the transgender athlete to have an opposing player spike a teammate in the face and instead pursuing a Title IX complaint against that teammate for “misgendering”; the Education Department did not immediately comment.
