Texas GOP Primaries

Sen. Ted Cruz, R‑Texas, has formally endorsed state Rep. Steve Toth in the Republican primary against incumbent Rep. Dan Crenshaw for Texas’s 2nd Congressional District, just days before early voting ends for the March 3 primary. In a post on X, Cruz praised Toth as a champion of "liberty, limited government, and constitutional governance" and an "unwavering fighter" for school choice and fiscal restraint, urging voters to elect him to Congress. The endorsement deepens a visible split between Texas’ two most prominent GOP brands, with Cruz siding against a nationally known incumbent who has often feuded with the party’s populist wing. While former President Trump has not endorsed in the race, he previously backed Toth for the Texas House in 2022 and 2024, giving Toth additional credibility with pro‑Trump primary voters who already criticize Crenshaw as insufficiently aligned with the MAGA movement.
