After the ISIS‑inspired Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney — which authorities say was carried out by a father and his adult son, left 15 dead and dozens injured, and involved homemade ISIS flags and improvised explosive devices — leading U.S. Jewish security groups urged tighter protections for public Hanukkah events, including preregistration, screening and access controls. In response, police in New York City and Los Angeles have bolstered security at public menorah lightings and other Hanukkah gatherings.
