House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who urged Democrats to “attend with silent defiance” or skip the Feb. 24 State of the Union, said the party’s reactions were “appropriately restrained and forceful,” defended Rep. Al Green’s sign and condemned President Trump’s Truth Social attacks on Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib as “disgraceful, unpresidential, unpatriotic and un‑American.” Rep. Ilhan Omar said she has no regrets for repeatedly shouting “you are a murderer” and “you’re a liar” at Trump, calling the outburst “unavoidable” to draw attention to the killings of her constituents Renee Good and Alex Pretti and saying she intentionally defied Jeffries’ guidance. About half of House and Senate Democrats skipped the address, while others held signs, staged counter‑events or walked out mid‑speech; Rep. Rashida Tlaib wore an anti‑ICE pin and also interrupted the president.
