Tennessee bill seeks to bar ICE from school campuses
Tennessee Democratic Rep. Gabby Salinas has introduced House Bill 1482, which would prohibit Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers from entering school campuses and restrict the use of schools, certain public properties and religious institutions for civil immigration enforcement unless agents give prior notice and comply with specified limits. Filed in the opening days of the 2026 legislative session, the bill would also require the state to notify students, staff and security of their rights when approached by federal agents, and is framed by Salinas as a response to safety concerns following the recent fatal ICE shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis amid Trump administration moves to roll back prior 'sensitive locations' protections.
