Twelve Republican state senators in New York sent a letter Friday urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to hire an independent private professional services firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of New York’s government programs comparable to those implicated in alleged widespread fraud in Minnesota, including sham daycare centers and suspected pandemic loan abuse. Citing the Small Business Administration’s suspension of 6,900 Minnesota borrowers over hundreds of millions of dollars in suspected pandemic-loan fraud, the senators say Minnesota’s 'revelations' highlight vulnerabilities in publicly funded programs and argue New York must proactively examine its own systems for abuse.
