Allen Chesser pressed Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden on basic civics—McFadden initially gave incorrect answers about which branch he serves and said he did not know how many branches there are, at one point suggesting the judicial branch before being told sheriffs fall under the executive—and confronted him over a prior comment about not having to follow state immigration laws, which McFadden said was taken out of context and that his office is now complying with the state’s ICE‑cooperation law.
