Hugh Hefner’s Widow Seeks State Probes of Foundation Over Thousands of Sexual Scrapbooks
Crystal Hefner, widow of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, says she is filing complaints with the attorneys general of California and Illinois accusing the Hugh M. Hefner Foundation of holding roughly 3,000 private scrapbooks containing lewd photos of thousands of women and 'possibly' underage girls taken before, during and after sexual encounters. At a Tuesday news conference with attorney Gloria Allred, she alleged the foundation also has Hugh Hefner’s detailed sex diary and that she was removed as foundation president after objecting to the material being retained and digitized. The scrapbooks, which reportedly date back to the 1960s, are distinct from Playboy magazine content and are believed to be stored in California facilities and some private residences, raising both potential child‑exploitation and large‑scale privacy concerns if the images leak or are misused. Allred emphasized they have not confirmed the presence of child pornography but want AG‑led investigations into how the foundation obtained and is handling the material, including the risk that digitization could facilitate unauthorized distribution. The foundation has not responded publicly, and any state inquiry could test how aggressively authorities will move against a prominent charity over legacy sexual imagery amassed by a now‑deceased media mogul.
