Fresno city council candidate Rene Campos, a registered sex offender, is under investigation after holding a campaign news conference outside a downtown church just feet from Big Picture Elementary School while it was in session and children were present; school officials filed a police report, called the event a "deeply troubling display of contempt of the law," and said it may have violated his sex‑offender restrictions. Campos acknowledged that being that close to a school during operational hours would violate the law but said he believed the charter school was closed; the event was scheduled for 3:30 p.m., while the school's posted hours run 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
