A new National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund report shows U.S. law‑enforcement line‑of‑duty deaths fell from 148 in 2024 to 111 in 2025, the lowest annual total since 1943, with declines in firearm, traffic and other fatality categories. Firearm-related deaths dropped to 44 and traffic deaths fell nearly 23%, trends the Fund’s CEO links partly to 'move‑over' laws and safer roadside tactics, even as a separate Fraternal Order of Police tally finds officers shot on duty (fatal and nonfatal) edged up slightly to 347.
