Danise Baird, the wife of Rep. Jim Baird, has died from complications of injuries sustained in a Jan. 5 hit‑and‑run crash, the family said. Their son Beau said she suffered nearly 15 breaks and fractures and had briefly begun taking assisted steps before her condition worsened; Rep. Baird was also injured but was discharged in under 24 hours and missed some time on Capitol Hill, and several House Republicans, including Elise Stefanik, Pete Stauber and Lisa McClain, offered condolences for the couple’s 59‑year marriage.
