A Pennsylvania man, identified as Gerlach, has been charged after investigators recovered more than 100 sets of human remains — including skulls and mummified body parts — from his home and a storage unit and observed numerous bones visible in his car during surveillance at Mount Moriah Cemetery. Prosecutors say he was seen leaving the cemetery carrying a burlap bag, crowbar and other items, admitted to stealing about 30 sets of remains, and that the remains range from months‑old infants to hundreds of years old; he faces more than 450 charges (including roughly 100 counts each of abuse of a corpse, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property), has bail set at $1 million, and is arraigned Jan. 20.
