Officer Connor Grubb was acquitted of all charges, including murder, in the fatal shooting of Ta’Kiya Young, a pregnant woman accused of shoplifting; earlier in the trial a judge had dismissed four of 10 counts tied to Young’s unborn daughter after finding no proof Grubb knew she was pregnant. Grubb had faced murder, involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault with a potential life sentence, he did not testify (his written statement was read by an Ohio BCI agent), Young’s family said they hope to begin healing, and a federal lawsuit alleges inadequate police training and that Grubb recklessly escalated the encounter.
