New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s running mate, New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, voted in late 2021 for a City Council measure that would have allowed lawful permanent residents and work‑authorized noncitizens to vote in municipal elections. The state’s highest court later struck down the law, and GOP Rep. Nicole Malliotakis criticized Adams, saying anyone backing noncitizen voting “has no business” holding statewide office.
