Minnesota Social-Services Fraud Fallout

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has ordered the Texas Workforce Commission and Texas Health and Human Services Commission to conduct a comprehensive investigation into potential fraud in the state’s subsidized child care programs, citing the recent Minnesota social‑services scandal as a warning sign. In a Monday letter, Abbott praised Texas’ current 0.43% improper payment rate compared with Minnesota’s roughly 11% but directed the agencies to strengthen audits and in‑person checks, deliver a progress report by Jan. 30 and a final report by Feb. 27, and ensure taxpayer funds are not misused.
