A Fox News report says second lady Usha Vance worked with Sens. Jim Banks and Elissa Slotkin, the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, and the Armed Services Committees to secure a provision in the new $901 billion National Defense Authorization Act requiring Department of Defense Education Activity schools to sharply limit student cellphone use during instructional hours. The change will force DoDEA—one of only two federally run school systems serving about 67,000 children of active‑duty military and DoD civilians—to update and standardize its mobile‑device policies to reduce classroom distractions.
