A shooting outside an LDS meetinghouse on North Redwood Road in Salt Lake City during a funeral for a largely Tongan ward left at least two people dead and six others wounded, with three in critical condition; one of the deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Vaea Tulikaninifo. Salt Lake City police say the attack grew out of a dispute among people who knew each other — not a random or anti‑LDS hate crime — and that no arrests have been made while investigators, aided by the FBI and ATF, review license‑plate readers and surveillance footage and report having “solid leads” despite trouble getting witnesses to cooperate.
