Adam Johnson, the Florida man photographed carrying then‑House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s podium during the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot and later convicted of entering and remaining in a restricted building, has filed to run as a Republican for an at‑large seat on the Manatee County Commission. Johnson, who served 75 days in prison and paid a $5,000 fine, filed his candidacy on Jan. 6, 2026 — the riot’s fifth anniversary — is using an outline of his viral podium photo as his campaign logo, and says he expects intense scrutiny as he campaigns on opposition to high property taxes and overdevelopment in the GOP‑leaning county south of Tampa.
