The Trump administration quietly removed the Pride flag from the Stonewall National Monument flagpole after issuing a January Interior memo that limits National Park Service sites to flying only the U.S., Interior and POW/MIA flags, drawing outrage from activists—who have re‑raised smaller flags on the fence and staged protests—and prompting calls that the move was a “slap in the face.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he will introduce legislation to designate the Pride flag as a “congressionally authorized” flag with protections akin to the U.S. and military flags, arguing Congress must permanently protect the Pride flag at Stonewall and let parks decide what flags to fly.
