The FBI says agents and international partners arrested Alexis Flores in Honduras on Wednesday, ending more than two decades on the run for a suspect wanted in the 2000 kidnapping and strangling of a 5-year-old girl in Philadelphia. Flores, previously on the FBI Ten Most Wanted list, is wanted on a federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution warrant and a 2007 Philadelphia murder warrant tied to the child’s disappearance on July 29, 2000 and her discovery days later in a nearby apartment. FBI Director Kash Patel said the case shows 'time and distance do not shield violent offenders from justice' and that Flores is now 'on a path back to the United States,' signaling the bureau will seek his return to face trial. Flores had been on the Ten Most Wanted list from 2007 until March 2025, when he was removed as part of an internal review, but his capture follows a recent string of high-profile fugitive arrests under the Trump administration, including alleged killer Alejandro Rosales Castillo and ex-Olympian Ryan Wedding. The case will now turn on Honduran legal proceedings and extradition, which could finally bring a resolution to a murder that has remained unsolved for more than 25 years and has periodically resurfaced in U.S. true-crime coverage and victim-advocacy campaigns.
