Critics, including the FBI Agents Association and fired executives now suing and alleging Patel acted at the behest of the White House and Trump allies, characterize the actions as retaliatory and point to earlier controversial firings (such as 12 agents disciplined for kneeling in 2020 and a veteran dismissed over displaying an LGBTQ+ flag) as part of a broader pattern that they say undermines public safety.
