Chicago Public Schools’ Office of Inspector General reported $14.5 million in 'excessive' travel expenses across FY2023–24, including $7.7 million in FY2024, a 2,467% jump from FY2021. The report lists trips to Las Vegas, Egypt, Finland and South Africa and lands amid weak student outcomes — 30.5% reading and 18.3% math proficiency (grades 3–8) and 40.8% chronic absenteeism — and SAT-based proficiency of 22.4% (reading) and 18.6% (math) for 11th graders.
