The House Rules Committee on Nov. 17 advanced a bill by Rep. Elise Stefanik to prohibit cashless bail in Washington, D.C., as President Trump intensifies pressure on jurisdictions with August 25 executive orders directing tougher federal pretrial detention in D.C. and threatening to withhold funds from cities and states that largely eliminated cash bail. D.C. leaders called the move federal overreach, and DOJ has not yet released its anticipated list of targeted jurisdictions.
