Israel carried out an airstrike in Beirut’s Haret Hreik — its first in the capital in months — that it says killed Hezbollah chief of staff Haytham Ali Tabatabai, a U.S.-designated militant with a $5 million reward. The strike, reported to have hit the 4th and 5th floors of a 10‑story residential building and which Lebanon’s health ministry said killed five and wounded about 25, was confirmed by Hezbollah, drew condemnation from Lebanese officials, and Israeli leaders vowed further action while U.S. officials said Washington was not notified in advance.
