After an ambush near Palmyra that killed two Iowa National Guard soldiers and a U.S. civilian interpreter, the U.S. launched "Operation Hawkeye Strike" — a series of strikes across central Syria that hit roughly 70 ISIS-linked targets with fighter jets, attack helicopters, artillery and more than 100 precision munitions, with Jordanian aircraft participating. In the days that followed, U.S. and partner forces conducted multiple raids that U.S. officials say killed or captured about 25 ISIS operatives and seized or destroyed several weapons caches.
