IRS and Federal Tax Policy

The IRS announced that it will begin accepting and processing 2025 individual income tax returns on Jan. 26, 2026, with an April 15 deadline, while warning from the National Taxpayer Advocate and others that a 26% workforce reduction could strain operations. Agency leaders say systems have been updated to reflect a new Republican tax and spending law, which includes provisions retroactive to tax year 2025 and is expected to generate more questions from filers as the IRS processes roughly 164 million returns.
