Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt says the federal ICE and other agents deployed under Operation Metro Surge remain in the Minneapolis region despite White House signals they might be drawn down, and she says local deputies have been "scapegoated" and exhausted by protest deployments. Local police chiefs allege ICE agents racially profiled U.S. citizens — including several off‑duty officers of color who were stopped or boxed in — calling the actions civil‑rights violations and urging greater vetting and oversight, while Witt stresses her office does not conduct civil immigration enforcement and will not hold people past court‑ordered release without a judge‑signed warrant.
