U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman declared a mistrial in the trial of nine defendants accused in the July 4, 2025 Prairieland ICE detention‑center ambush after defense attorney MarQuetta Clayton wore a T‑shirt featuring Shirley Chisholm and Martin Luther King Jr. under her blazer during jury selection, an appearance the judge deemed inappropriate after about 22 minutes and halted proceedings. Pittman said he had “no other choice,” ordered a new pool of roughly 130 prospective jurors to be summoned to restart selection next Tuesday, noted that about 20 initial prospects had voiced opposition to ICE (one citing a family of immigrants), and scheduled a show‑cause hearing to consider sanctions against Clayton.
