The Department of Homeland Security says Angel Camacho, a Venezuelan national who overstayed a U.S. tourist visa by more than five years, was arrested on Jan. 6 after he arrived at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in Dania Beach, Florida, to perform information‑technology contract work. According to DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis, CBP’s standard visitor‑vetting process flagged that Camacho had violated U.S. immigration laws, and he was taken into custody and transferred to ICE. Officials say Camacho has a prior criminal record that includes theft and resisting a Florida Highway Patrol officer. The case, disclosed as "first on Fox," comes as federal authorities highlight multiple recent arrests of non‑citizens who obtained or sought jobs in law enforcement and education, raising fresh questions about how thoroughly federal contractors and public‑sector hires are screened.
