The National Weather Service warned Wednesday that cold air sweeping over the Great Lakes is producing intense lake‑effect snow from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to western New York, with blizzard warnings in the Keweenaw Peninsula and heavy snow bands through the holiday weekend. Forecasters say the northern U.P. could see 1–3 feet of snow and areas south of Buffalo 12–18 inches, with snowfall rates of 2–3 inches per hour in narrow bands that could rapidly reduce visibility and snarl Thanksgiving travel.
