Judge strikes down Texas Ten Commandments law; Paxton sues additional districts amid patchwork compliance
A federal judge ruled that a Texas law requiring classrooms to display the Ten Commandments is unconstitutional, and courts have ordered more than two dozen of the state’s nearly 1,200 districts not to hang the mandated posters. Compliance has been patchwork — some districts (Leander) continue displaying donated posters, Frisco printed nearly 5,000 posters at its own expense despite the law saying displays are required only if donated, and Hays CISD posted the Bill of Rights alongside the Ten Commandments — while Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed lawsuits against additional districts, including Galveston ISD.
