Christopher Raia, head of the FBI’s New York field office, has been named a co-deputy director replacing Dan Bongino and is scheduled to start next week alongside existing co-deputy Andrew Bailey. A former Coast Guard officer who joined the FBI in 2003 and rose through violent-crime, drug and gang work into counterterrorism and national security, Raia helped lead the bureau’s response to the New Year’s Day truck attack in New Orleans and was appointed New York chief in April; his predecessor, James Dennehy, was forced to retire amid reports he resisted DOJ scrutiny of agents, and no successor has yet been named.
