FBI Director Kash Patel announced Friday that the bureau has finalized plans to permanently close the aging J. Edgar Hoover headquarters in Washington, D.C., abandoning a nearly $5 billion new‑construction plan that would not open until 2035. Instead, most FBI headquarters personnel will be relocated to the existing Ronald Reagan Building across downtown, a move Patel says will provide a safer, more modern facility at a fraction of the cost while allowing more resources to be focused on homeland defense, violent crime and national security missions.
